A Family Business
Dos Pizotes Olive Ranch was started by Bill Porada and his wife Angelica. Their children, Alex and Angela also help with the business. In 2010 they purchased land that they wanted to cultivate. Bill, who grew up and worked on tree farms in Ohio as a youngster, decided to plant olive trees on their land in northeast San Diego County. The location they chose has a climate similar to the Mediterranean where olive trees thrive.
They first planted over 300 small Arbequina, Arbosana (both Spanish varietals) and Koroneiki (Greek) olive tree saplings which were only about 24 to 30 inches tall at the time. The trees are now fully grown and are in full production. Every tree in the grove is hand cared for on a regular basis. More land is being acquired by the ranch where more varietals will be grown.
